What if one day you woke up to find that you’ve lost everything.
What if a natural disaster swept through your city and left you with nothing but the clothes on your back.
What if life as you knew it was no longer and you were forced to start all over again, what would you do?
There was a time in my life that I felt like I had lost everything, my business had crashed along with my income and seemingly everything else followed but watching the recent events in Houston made me realize how much I actually had and how much I was focused on the wrong things.
I watched a video of a man that had been rescued from the floods along with his son, they had been air lifted in a rescue cage and upon them landing the reporter asked …
Reporter: How did they get you in that basket (referring to the rescue basket attached to the chopper)
The Man: We climbed out of the window through the sliding door and they strapped us in
Reporter: What’s your name?
The Man: Jeremiah
Reporter: How old is your son?
The man: He’s six, Jeremiah Jr. … We Thank GOD
Reporter: This is all you have
The Man: Yes! This is all we got, we lost everything, we lost the car, all our clothes, school clothes everything is gone, everything is gone
Reporter: Where will you go now
The Man: We don’t know, we don’t know
Reporter: But you’re thankful
The Man: Yes! We’re Thankful, God Did It! God Did It! GOD DID IT!
I know you must have seen this video too, it went viral
People including myself were touched by how grateful Jeremiah was even though he lost everything except his life.
It made me pause and think and say to myself Kike, what would you do if you really lost everything?
What would you do if you were in the exact situation as Jeremiah with nothing but the soaking wet clothes on your back and your children? I have to be honest I really don’t know. I don’t know if I would have had as grateful a heart and positive attitude as Jeremiah did but what I do know is that this past week and many of the things I witnessed made me extremely grateful for everything I have, made me realize that I could be doing so much more in various areas of my life, and led me to concentrate on the areas I can make more of an impact.
So what does this have to do with business, well everything!
You see Jeremiah was able to go through that horrible ordeal and still come out grateful and positive because he was focused on the right things.
He was focused on the fact that he and his son were still alive, instead of focusing on what he lost or what we could not do.
He probably knew deep down inside that even with everything he lost he still had everything he needed to start all over again, he didn’t seem worried at all. And while I’m sure he will experience more ups and downs as he starts to rebuild someone with that much faith will stay the course.
Having faith, staying focused on the things you can change and not those that you can’t and having a grateful heart are some of the most important things needed when building a business. They will keep you going long after the mist of “all things entrepreneurial and glamorous” fade away, long after other people drop off and quit on themselves, long enough for you to achieve the seemingly impossible and live the life you deserve.
I’ll be sharing my personal experiences regarding how to do exactly this and so much more in my upcoming “Quit Your 9-5” master class on Sunday, September 17th, this masterclass is about so much more than just quitting your job that’s just a by product, an option that will become available to you should you want to do so. I created this master class upon request to give you not only a straight up, no fluff action plan but to also help you cultivate the mindset to get through life’s many challenges.
